Wessel und Olaf Stüber begeistern sich - als Sammler einerseits und als
Galerist andererseits - seit mehreren Jahren für Videokunst mit der
Überzeugung, es dabei mit einer der interessantesten Ausdrucksformen
zeitgenössischer Kunstproduktion zu tun zu haben.Neben der inhaltlichen Auseinandersetzung fasziniert sie auch immer wieder von neuem die Frage der Inszenierung eines Video und die Besonderheiten der Rezeption: Wie zeige ich ein Kunstwerk adäquat und wie schaffe ich ein Umfeld, das den optimalen Zugang zu diesem Werk ermöglicht – in einer Sammlung, auf Messen, in einer Ausstellung? So unterschiedlich die Formen von Videokunst heute sind, und so schnell die Entwicklung voranschreitet, ist auf die Frage der bestmöglichen Präsentation keine eindeutige Antwort zu geben. So funktioniert die eine Arbeit vielleicht auf dem Display eines Handys, die andere als im Loop laufende Installation im musealen Raum und eine dritte etwa mit Monitor und Kopfhörer. Ivo Wessel und Olaf Stüber loten in ihrem gemeinsamen Interesse insbesondere an narrativen Videoarbeiten einen jener Aspekte aus, der sich bei Künstlern der jüngeren Generation häufig zeigt, nämlich Arbeiten zu schaffen, die nach dem Format des Kinos, der großen Leinwand und der cineastischen Atmosphäre verlangen. In einer glücklichen Kooperation mit dem Kino im Babylon am Rosa-Luxemburg Platz in Berlin-Mitte laden Ivo Wessel und Olaf Stüber ein, ihre Obsession für diese Form von Videokunst zu teilen. So monatlich wie möglich, immer an einem Freitag, immer um 24 Uhr. |

The all-embracing mediality manifests itself in random set-offs of immanent violence – a power that functions without being owned. »Untitled [Two Guys]« captures and deconstructs the functioning of (sub)cultural codes in a "globalized society" and the mechanisms of image-production and reproduction." – Jakob Schillinger on UNTITLED [»TWO GUYS«] Mario Pfeifer (b. 1981, Dresden/Germany) is a filmmaking artist based in Berlin. He studied Visual Arts at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig with Astrid Klein, at University of the Arts Berlin with Stan Douglas and graduated 2008 from Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main/ Germany in the class of Willem de Rooij. In 2008/9 He was a Fulbright scholar at the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles. In 2010 Mario Pfeifer was awarded with VideoKunstPreis Bremen and received a DAAD fellowship for the US. Mario Pfeifer's films are shown in the art and film context. Exhibitions include Mulhouse Biennale 010 (2010), New Topographics, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles (2010), ANTIREPRESENTATIONALSIM I-III,KOCH OBERHUBER WOLFF, Berlin (2009/10), Back to the Future, Center of Opinion in Music and Art, Berlin (2009), Ende, Städelmuseum Frankfurt am Main (2008), I AM A MAN, Portikus e.V., Frankfurt am Main(2008), Thisiscurating1-40, First Draft Gallery, Sydney (2008) amongst others. His films were screened at international film festivals in Bangkok, Frankfurt, Cologne, Paris, Madrid, Osnabrück and Berlin and in institutions such as Art Basel Film 2010, Redcat Los Angeles, Museum fur Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main, Centre Pompidou, Reina Sofia National Museum, Madrid, Museum Folkwang Essen or Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin. His first institutional solo exhibition will take place at Weserburg Bremen - Museum fur Moderne Kunst in december 2010. A first monography will be published later on this year by Sternberg Press presenting contextual material to his film »Reconsidering The New Industrial Parks near Irvine, California by Lewis Baltz, 1974«. Mario Pfeifer recently collaborated with Shumona Goel a Shai Heredia in Bombay / India and before with Arto Lindsay, Amy Patton as well as Christian Naujoks on several film related projects.
